The Effects of Neo-colonialism in Africa

Neo-colonialism is defined as the use of economic, political, and cultural influences in order to put pressure onto a specific nation. This could include sanctions, tariffs, and other trade-oriented ways of influencing nations, essentially forcing their hand. Delegates are strongly encouraged to discuss and consider the potential dangers of unregulated aid sent from well-developed nations, and primarily the harm that could be done to Africa due to attempted economic or political assistance gone wrong and eventually oppositely affecting the region in question. Along with this, delegates are encouraged to focus on how human rights are affected by neo-colonialism in Africa. One of the greatest examples of this would be Dutch colonization with Apartheid in South Africa, which was the racial segregation between the Dutch descendants and those who were native to the country. This caused predictable detrimental effects to the natives who had the rights to the land, as they found those rights and others stripped from them, and the situation spanned many decades, up until the 1990s. The indigenous people were forbidden from living in certain areas, marrying into a family of a different race, and were separated into discriminatory groups based on physical appearance and other socioeconomic factors.

Usage of AI to Analyze Footage and Privacy of the Individual

The role of artificial intelligence and associated technology in police force data analysis is one that has been widely debated over recent years with regards to human rights on either side. A specific example for delegates to consider would be the use of AI to analyze body camera footage in a potential incident involving whether the use of a gun was a necessity or not.
