SICMUN - JR. MUNshop

POV of a program manager, direct and strategic.

Here is the expanded version with a clean, strong addition about Level 2 workshops.

JR. MUNshop is a student-led program based in Austin, Texas, that helps middle schoolers become confident speakers, critical thinkers, and strong future leaders. Through hands-on Model United Nations training, we introduce students in grades 6 through 8 to the world of diplomacy, public speaking, and global problem solving long before they ever step into high school.

We created JR. MUNshop because the gap is obvious. Too many students begin high school with almost no background in public speaking, debate, or MUN even though these activities are some of the most competitive and rewarding opportunities available. Without early exposure, students hesitate to join, feel intimidated by experienced peers, or miss out altogether. We built this program to change that trajectory.

Our monthly workshops break down complex ideas into simple, interactive activities that students actually enjoy. Participants learn how to craft persuasive speeches, write effective resolutions, engage in structured debate, and build an understanding of global issues and international cooperation. Every session is led by experienced high school MUN delegates and supervised by an adult to maintain a structured, supportive environment.

Class sizes stay intentionally small so each student gets meaningful practice, direct feedback, and individualized attention. Whether a student wants to win awards at future MUN conferences or just gain confidence speaking in front of others, JR. MUNshop provides a strong, accessible starting point.

Now we are expanding the program to meet rising demand. Starting this year, JR. MUNshop will offer a Level 2 workshop designed for students who already understand the basics of MUN. This includes students who completed our introductory sessions or middle schoolers with prior MUN experience who want to sharpen their competitive skills. Level 2 focuses on higher level strategy, advanced resolution writing, stronger negotiation techniques, and practice sessions modeled after real high school committees. The goal is simple: reinforce their foundation, build mastery, and prepare them to enter high school MUN as confident, capable delegates from day one.

We are not just helping students get ahead, we are helping them find their voice, refine it, and learn how to use it with impact.
